More than 1,000 flights have been canceled and others delayed due to a global Windows outage reportedly caused by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike on Friday. Computer systems crashed worldwide, leading to Microsoft’s “blue screen of death” and disruptions for businesses, including airlines. Airports from Los Angeles to Bangkok, London to Hong Kong, Mumbai to Madrid, and more experienced delays as a result. Microsoft and CrowdStrike are working to resolve the issue, leaving thousands of travelers unsure about the status of their flights.
Various airlines, such as Aegean Airlines, Air France, Allegiant, Akasa Airlines, American Airlines, Binter, Delta, Frontier, IndiGo, Jetstar, KLM, Qantas, Ryanair, Singapore Airlines, SpiceJet, Sun Country, Swiss International, TAP Air Portugal, and Turkish Airlines, have reported issues related to the outage affecting their operations. Customers are advised to check their airline’s website or social media for updates on flight status.
