I had the privilege of residing in Argentina for almost two years, allowing me to leisurely explore the country during my vacations. However, for the majority of visitors to this beautiful country, this is not feasible. In my opinion, a 10-day itinerary is the ideal amount of time to experience the highlights of Argentina. This itinerary, created by someone who has lived in Argentina, will guide you through your Argentine adventure, ensuring you see as much as possible in your 10 days. It will take you from Buenos Aires to Puerto Iguazu to Patagonia, with additional suggestions for Mendoza if you have extra time.
I also provide insight into the best time of year to visit Argentina, transportation options within the country, and accommodation recommendations. Enjoy!
Best Time to Visit Argentina
Argentina is a vast country, so the ideal time to visit will vary depending on the regions you plan to explore. This itinerary aims to cover most of the country. Personally, I tested this itinerary at the end of February and found it to be perfect. The weather was warm in Buenos Aires and Puerto Iguazu (around 80 degrees Fahrenheit on average) but ideal in Patagonia (50-60 degrees Fahrenheit) with fewer crowds.
If February doesn’t work for you, I recommend visiting Argentina in the spring (end of September to end of December). During this time, temperatures are mild, and the beautiful Jacaranda trees are in bloom. Buenos Aires averages between 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit, while Patagonia will be cooler, ranging from 30-50 degrees Fahrenheit.
Arriving in Argentina – Transportation from the Airport
Most international flights arrive at Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires, located about 20 miles from the city center. Taking a bus from the airport to the city can be a lengthy journey of 2-3 hours. A car ride will be quicker, around 40 minutes. I recommend arranging a shuttle service through your hotel or using Uber, which operates in Buenos Aires.
Getting Around Argentina for This Itinerary
To make the most of your time, I suggest flying to each destination on this itinerary. While buses and rental cars are options, they require more time. For instance, a bus trip from Buenos Aires to Puerto Iguazu takes 18 hours, while driving takes 15 hours. A flight, on the other hand, is less than 2 hours. Aerolineas Argentina and LATAM Airlines are common domestic flight options in Argentina.
In Buenos Aires and Puerto Iguazu, public transport is efficient for city travel. Buenos Aires has a subway system, and Puerto Iguazu has reliable buses. Taxis and Uber are also available. In Patagonia, shuttles, taxis, and tour companies can transport you to various locations.
