Diari Keluarga Jenin, Bersembunyi di Dapur dari Serangan Israel | Tepi Barat yang Diduduki

Saja Bawaqneh and her six relatives have been taking refuge in a corner of their family home’s kitchen since late Tuesday, August 27. They are in the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank, where an intense Israeli assault is taking place. The power is out, water lines have been cut, and they are rationing the water they have left. Despite calling for help, they are unable to leave the house due to the presence of tanks and soldiers everywhere.

The Israeli army has attacked several areas, resulting in the death of at least 20 Palestinians and many more injured. The Bawaqneh home has been damaged and raided multiple times in the past, causing destruction to their property.

Saja describes the terrifying experience of hiding in the kitchen with her family, including her sisters, sister-in-law, and two young nieces. The sound of gunfire and the presence of a bulldozer outside add to their fear and uncertainty. They are prepared with grab bags containing essentials in case they are forced to evacuate.

As the night progresses, anxiety and tension rise among the family members. News of deaths in the area, including that of a close family friend, adds to their distress. The children, unaware of the gravity of the situation, long to leave the house and are confused by the sounds of conflict outside.

Despite hunger and discomfort, the family remains trapped in the kitchen, unsure of what the future holds. They cling to each other for support and try to comfort the children amidst the chaos and uncertainty of the ongoing assault.
