Bagaimana Saya Membuat Video dari Perjalanan Mengemudi Paling Sulit dalam Hidup Saya

Traveling 4,000 miles across Europe in an electric Lotus Eletre was a daunting task that proved to be both thrilling and nerve-wracking. Adding to the complexity, I also needed to film my own video during the journey. From scripting and setting up cameras and microphones in the car to presenting pieces to camera while driving, there was a lot of production work to manage. Balancing around seven hours of driving per day with capturing still images for my written article was a challenge as well, especially since I was the sole person on this adventure.

Here’s my experience and some tips on how you can shoot your own documentary-style videos.

Planning and scripting for the trip was limited due to the unpredictable nature of the journey. I had to be flexible with my route and accommodations, booking hotels on the go. This meant that scripting the video’s story was challenging, as I had to improvise based on the unfolding events. Taking notes on my phone at charging stops and dictating thoughts while driving helped me create sections for the video later on.

In terms of equipment, I packed multiple cameras, lenses, tripods, gimbals, and rigging gear to ensure I captured the shots I wanted. Cameras like the Canon R5, Panasonic S5, and GoPro Hero 7 were essential for different angles and perspectives. Rigging equipment like Manfrotto suction cups allowed me to mount cameras securely inside and outside the car. Backup storage, batteries, and power banks were also crucial for a smooth filming process.

Finding unique angles was a priority to make the film visually engaging. Despite traveling solo, I managed to capture a variety of b-roll shots both inside and outside the car. Setting up the camera in safe spots and filming stationary shots of the car in scenic surroundings added depth to the video. Internal shots of the car’s details, along with shots while driving, required careful planning and positioning of the camera.
