The Pixel Watch 2 was a big improvement over its predecessor, but there is still plenty of room for growth in the upcoming Pixel Watch 3. One of the key areas for enhancement that I am looking forward to seeing in the next model is longer battery life. Achieving multiday battery life is a challenge for many smartwatch manufacturers, including Google, Apple, and Samsung. As health tracking becomes more important in smartwatches, having a battery that can reliably last for more than a day is crucial, especially for sleep tracking purposes.
In addition to longer battery life, I am hoping to see more health readings on the Pixel Watch 3 that do not require a Fitbit Premium subscription. New wellness metrics, additional size options, and longer battery life are also on my wishlist for the upcoming model. Google typically releases a new Pixel Watch and Pixel phones in October, so it is expected that they will stick to this timeline for the 2024 release.
Battery life has always been a challenge for smartwatches, but Google has made some improvements with the Pixel Watch 2, enabling it to last for 24 hours with the always-on display activated. With recent changes to the Wear OS operating system, we can expect even better power efficiency and extended battery life in the Pixel Watch 3. This, combined with any updates Google may make to the battery, could result in a significant boost in longevity.
Another improvement I hope to see in the Pixel Watch 3 is the addition of a new size option. Currently, the Pixel Watch 2 is only available in one 41-millimeter size, which may be too small for some users. Offering a larger size option, as some competitors do, could make the watch more accessible to a wider range of users.
In terms of health metrics, I am looking forward to seeing more comprehensive data points on the Pixel Watch 3 that can provide a clearer picture of overall wellness. Fitbit’s Daily Readiness Score is a step in the right direction, but I hope to see Google take this further to set itself apart from other competitors in the market.
Overall, there are several areas where I hope to see the Pixel Watch 3 improve upon its predecessor, including longer battery life, additional size options, and more comprehensive health metrics. With Google planning some big changes for 2024, it will be interesting to see how the next model compares to its predecessors and competitors in the smartwatch market.
