Over the years, I have experimented with various DJI drones but always found them too complex to use on the fly. However, the $349 HoverAir X1 from Zero Zero Robotics is a game-changer. This “selfie drone” is incredibly user-friendly and has become an essential tool for both work and play right out of the box.
For instance, the HoverAir X1 was used to capture the review photo, 360-degree GIF, and overhead shot, as well as all the follow, orbit, and zoom shots in the e-bikepacking video and ID Buzz e-camper review. Each shot was taken with a simple touch of a button on the drone itself, eliminating the need for a controller.
The HoverAir X1 is designed to be ultra-lightweight and compact, easily fitting in a pocket for on-the-go use. It launches quickly, allowing for spontaneous and interesting drone shots. It also automatically returns to land in your hand.
While the HoverAir X1 has its limitations, such as being unable to keep up with extreme action or being used over water, I appreciate it for its simplicity and ease of use. It may not have all the features of a DJI drone, but it excels at capturing moments effortlessly.
The X1’s compact size and lightweight design make it exempt from registration and licensing requirements in most countries. It can be easily carried on outdoor adventures and quickly set up for flight using the two buttons on the drone itself.
Overall, the HoverAir X1 may not have all the advanced features of other drones, but its simplicity and ease of use make it a top choice for capturing moments both indoors and outdoors.
