Disney’s biennial D23 expo has quickly followed the surprises at San Diego Comic-Con in July, where Robert Downey Jr. made his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But how do you top that? With a plethora of new announcements, trailers, teasers, and remakes, of course.
Day one of the weekend event showcased the return of beloved Disney classics like The Incredibles, Toy Story, and Frozen, along with exciting updates from Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars. To ensure you don’t miss a single moment, we’ve rounded up all the highlights from the event.
The entertainment showcase kicked off with the official trailer for Moana 2, set three years after the original film. Moana and Maui reunite to face a new threat to Oceania. Additionally, a live-action remake of Moana is in production and slated for release in 2026, with Moana 2 hitting theaters on November 27, 2024.
Following Moana, a teaser for the live-action remake of Disney’s classic Snow White was revealed, featuring Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. The film is set to premiere on March 21, 2025.
Fans also got a first look at Stitch in the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch, scheduled for a Summer 2025 release. Incredibles 3 and Toy Story 5 were also announced, with Incredibles 3 in production and Toy Story 5 set for a summer 2026 release.
Frozen fans can look forward to Frozen 3 in 2027, with plans for a Frozen 4 in the future. Zootopia 2, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, and Agatha All Along were among the other exciting announcements at D23.
Marvel fans were treated to a sneak peek at The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Daredevil: Born Again, both set to premiere in the coming years. Avatar 3 was also revealed to be titled Avatar: Fire and Ash, with a planned release date of December 19, 2025.
And last but not least, Freaky Friday 2 has been renamed Freakier Friday, with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis returning for the sequel to the 2003 film.
With so much excitement and anticipation building from D23, Disney fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming years.
