The Apple Vision Pro has been on the market since February. While it is an impressive device, it can be somewhat challenging and frustrating to use. Some of these challenges are expected with a first-ever product in a new category, such as the weight of the device and the limited field of view. However, many of these frustrations can be addressed in the next release of VisionOS.
Apple typically announces new operating system features at WWDC this week and releases them with new products in the fall. While it may be unlikely that a new Vision Pro will be released so soon, it is highly likely that we will see a significant update to the device’s operating system. Here are my 10 suggestions for improvements I would like to see in VisionOS 2.0:
1. Mouse support: Apple should introduce full mouse support for the Vision Pro, not limited to specific Apple mouse models.
2. Better Bluetooth support for non-Apple devices: Apple should improve compatibility with third-party Bluetooth devices and accessories.
3. Keyboard passthrough: Users should be able to create a passthrough opening to see the keyboard and mouse while in virtual space.
4. Less restrictive media restrictions: Apple should allow screenshots and video of entertainment media, and enable mirroring of video to Apple TV from the Vision Pro.
5. More native spatial apps: Apple should enhance existing apps with spatial features and introduce new apps designed for a 3D world.
6. More environments and third-party environments: Apple should offer a variety of immersive environments and allow third-party developers to create their own.
7. Larger play space boundary: Apple should provide flexibility in the physical play space boundary for larger spaces.
8. VR controller support: Apple should add support for controllers to enhance gaming and interactive experiences.
9. Better and more accurate hand and eye tracking: Apple should improve hand and eye tracking accuracy for a smoother user experience.
These improvements could enhance the overall usability and functionality of the Apple Vision Pro, making it a more enjoyable and user-friendly device.
