Hampir 200 orang tewas: Apa yang ada di balik serangan bersenjata di Burkina Faso? | Berita Kelompok Bersenjata

Approximately 200 individuals lost their lives and 140 were injured in the town of Barsalogho in Burkina Faso, following a brutal attack by the extremist group Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM). Among the victims were women and children. Barsalogho, located near the strategic town of Kaya, serves as a crucial point of defense against JNIM fighters advancing towards the capital city of Ouagadougou. The attack, carried out by JNIM, resulted in the disappearance of several soldiers as the group continues to claim territory in the troubled West African nation.

In response to the imminent threat, Burkina Faso’s military government had warned of a potential attack, prompting civilians to assist in digging trenches for protection. Despite initial concerns about reprisal attacks, the digging efforts were underway on Saturday. However, the fighters descended upon the town and unleashed violence, leading to numerous casualties. In the aftermath, JNIM fighters were seen in videos with bodies strewn across the trenches, indicating a brutal and deadly assault.

JNIM, formed in 2017, is a coalition of armed groups aiming to establish an Islamic caliphate in the Sahel region, including Mali, Burkina Faso, and parts of Niger. Led by Iyad Ag Ghaly, the group exploits local divisions and infrastructure to gain control and influence. JNIM funds its activities through various means, including ransom payments, extortion, and smuggling.

The group has been responsible for numerous attacks in Burkina Faso and Mali, resulting in significant casualties and displacements. As security worsens in Burkina Faso, with the country ranking as the most terrorism-affected globally, the military government’s efforts to combat extremist groups have faced challenges. Despite efforts to secure gains through alliances and military operations, the armed groups continue to expand their control, leaving a significant portion of the country outside government authority.
