The WhatsApp message with a colourful infographic highlighting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s achievements over the past decade has been circulating among members of the Indian diaspora in the United States. This campaign is spearheaded by Non Resident Indians For Mission 2024 (NRIM), a Florida-based company recently registered as a foreign agent by the US Department of Justice under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). The company’s owners, Gaurang Vaishnav and Girish Gandhi, have been in contact with the Prime Minister’s Office regarding election campaign materials. NRIM’s efforts to mobilise support for Modi’s re-election are part of a larger outreach campaign by the BJP’s US affiliate Overseas Friends of BJP (OFBJP), also a registered foreign agent. While some members of the Indian diaspora actively campaign for Modi’s re-election, others fear for their safety and the future of India under his leadership. The concerns of the Sikh and Kashmiri communities, as well as Indian Muslims and other minority groups, highlight the deep divisions within the diaspora regarding Modi’s rule. Despite these concerns, Modi continues to enjoy widespread support among a segment of the Indian-American diaspora, with his loyal supporters demonstrating their passion and commitment to his leadership.
