Revolusi yang dahulu tidak terpikirkan sedang diam-diam melanda lanskap korporat Prancis.

The corporate landscape in France is undergoing a quiet revolution as foreign-born CEOs take the reins of some of the country’s most-strategic companies. This trend, once unthinkable, is now becoming more common, with executives from various nationalities successfully leading major French corporations. Companies like Air France-KLM, Renault SA, Sanofi, and Atos SE are now being helmed by non-French CEOs, marking a significant shift from the past when top jobs were reserved for French elite school alumni.

The internationalization of France’s largest companies, with a majority of their revenue coming from outside the country, has played a key role in this change. President Emmanuel Macron’s pro-business stance has also contributed to attracting diverse international talent to lead French companies. Canadian-born Ben Smith, for example, successfully transformed Air France-KLM, overcoming initial skepticism due to his nationality. Italian-born Luca de Meo has similarly revitalized Renault, bringing the company back to profitability and investing in promoting made-in-France products.

The increasing presence of foreign CEOs in top French firms reflects a more global and flexible business environment. While French executives still dominate certain sectors like luxury goods, the trend towards hiring international talent is likely to continue as French companies compete on the global stage. The old nationalist taboos are melting away as companies in France seek to expand their presence in international markets, embracing diversity and expertise to drive success.
