Pemimpin kelompok ISIS yang terkait dengan serangan di Moscow memiliki ambisi global.

A deadly shooting incident at a concert hall near Moscow has been linked to the Afghan branch of Islamic State, known as ISIS-K, led by Sanaullah Ghafari. The attack resulted in the deaths of at least 137 people, with U.S. officials pointing the finger at ISIS-K as the responsible party. This revelation comes after Washington had reportedly warned Russia of an imminent attack earlier this month, based on intercepted communications among ISIS-K militants.

Ghafari, who took over as the emir of ISIS-K in 2020, has been instrumental in the group’s rise to prominence through high-profile attacks and a focus on recruiting non-Pashtun ethnic groups in Afghanistan and Central Asia. The group’s name, ISIS-Khorasan, reflects its ambition to establish a caliphate spanning across the region.

The recent attack in Moscow, where the gunmen were captured by Russian authorities, has raised questions about the attackers’ motives and their potential ties to extremist groups. Despite the lack of a public statement from Russian President Vladimir Putin linking the attackers to Islamist militants, experts believe that ISIS-K’s long-term goal is to expand its foreign operations, including targeting the United States.

The international community has been monitoring ISIS-K’s activities closely, with reports indicating a growing number of foreign recruits and an increased focus on Tajik nationals for recruitment. Tajikistan, a country with a history of instability and economic challenges, has become a fertile ground for extremist recruitment, especially among migrant workers in Russia who feel marginalized and mistreated.

As ISIS-K continues to pose a threat to regional and global security, experts warn of the group’s ability to launch audacious attacks and recruit from vulnerable populations. The international community, including the United States and Russia, must remain vigilant in countering the growing influence of ISIS-K and preventing further tragedies like the recent attack in Moscow.
