JAMBI – Subdit Jatanras Ditreskrimum Polda Jambi continues to hunt down suspects who allegedly vandalized the glass of the Jambi Governor’s Office building along with other facilities during a protest by coal transport drivers on Monday, January 22, 2024.
One suspect, who works as a coal truck driver, has been arrested by the authorities.
“One suspect who was arrested is a man with the initials SK (28) from Sungai Bertam, Muaro Jambi Regency. He works as a coal truck driver,” said Director of Criminal Investigation Polda Jambi, Kombes Pol Andri Ananta Yudhistira, on Saturday (24/2/2024).
Head of Subdit III Jatanras Ditreskrimum Polda Jambi, Kompol Muhamad Aulia Nasution, added that the arrested suspect was directly involved in the vandalism of the Jambi Governor’s Office.
“According to the suspect’s confession, he threw rocks at the governor’s office three times,” he added.
The suspect was arrested in Bertam, near his house. “He did not hide, we profiled his house, and when we approached, we immediately arrested him,” he said.
He also mentioned that there are still other perpetrators involved as he was not alone. During the incident, he and other coal truck drivers got emotional and threw rocks at the Jambi Governor’s Office until it was completely shattered.
For his actions, SK is charged under Article 170 for jointly committing vandalism with a threat of more than six years in prison.
As for the damages that have been recorded, the main glass windows of the Jambi Governor’s Office building were approximately 137 pieces.
Furthermore, 30 pieces of 500-watt spotlights, 25 decorative lights, 5 large hanging lights, 2 standing AC units, 12 split AC units, and 2 four-wheeled vehicles were also damaged.
