Di Halaman Belakang China, Amerika Telah Menjadi Kekuatan Super yang Lebih Merendah

Far from Ukraine and Gaza, the Group of 7 wealthy democracies is gathering in Italy to discuss a range of old, entrenched challenges, while the nature of American power is shifting in the Asia-Pacific region. The United States is no longer presenting itself as the confident guarantor of security, but rather as an eager teammate for military modernization and tech development in collaboration with other countries.

Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III recently spoke about a new approach to Indo-Pacific security at a global defense conference in Singapore. The United States is now engaging in various partnerships and collaborations, such as building nuclear-propelled submarines with Australia, involving South Korea in nuclear weapons planning, producing fighter jet engines with India, and working with Japan on offensive strike capabilities.

Many countries in the region are increasingly concerned about China’s growing military strength and assertiveness, as well as its economic policies. They are turning to the United States for support and cooperation, but it remains to be seen whether they are making a long-term bet on America over China or simply acting as pragmatists.

The United States is adapting to a more multipolar world in which it no longer dominates as it once did. The country’s economic share has declined, China has surpassed it in certain military capabilities, and there is growing internal division on the role of the United States in global affairs.

American officials are aware of these shifts and are seeking greater cooperation and humility in their foreign policy approach. They are emphasizing partnerships and alliances in the Asia-Pacific region and acknowledging that the United States does not need to be at the center of every relationship. This new approach reflects a recognition of a changing world order and an evolution in American power dynamics.
