Kerentanan Besar Ukraina: Amunisi, Prajurit, dan Pertahanan Udara

In a grim update from Ukraine’s top military commander, Gen. Oleksandr Syrsky, the army’s positions on the eastern front have deteriorated significantly in recent days. Russian forces are aggressively pushing to exploit their manpower and ammunition advantage in an attempt to break through Ukrainian lines.

Despite facing significant losses, General Syrsky warned that the enemy is deploying new units on armored vehicles to achieve periodic tactical gains. As a result, Ukraine’s energy ministry has advised millions of civilians to prepare for any scenario by charging power banks and getting generators ready in case Ukrainian power plants are damaged or destroyed in Russian airstrikes.

With critical military supplies from the United States drying up, Ukrainian commanders are being forced to make tough decisions on how to allocate limited resources as the civilian toll rises daily. President Volodymyr Zelensky has reiterated concerns about delays in American assistance deepening challenges on the front lines and warned that Ukrainian intelligence suggests the Kremlin is gearing up for a major offensive in the coming months.

Ukraine has been grappling with three critical challenges for months: a lack of ammunition, a shortage of well-trained troops, and dwindling air defenses. These vulnerabilities are now being compounded by Russia’s intensified assaults, raising the risk of Russian forces breaching Ukrainian defenses.

General Christopher G. Cavoli, the top American military commander in Europe, highlighted Ukraine’s dire shortage of ammunition, emphasizing the importance of artillery munitions in combat. He warned that if Ukraine cannot shoot back at Russian forces due to a lack of ammunition, they could face significant losses.

As Russia continues to replenish its arsenal and launch assaults with tanks and fighting vehicles, Ukrainian commanders are hopeful that initiatives by European allies to secure artillery shells will help address the urgent need. Despite these efforts, the burden falls heavily on infantry soldiers to defend against Russian attacks.

In addition to ammunition shortages, Ukraine is facing challenges in troop mobilization and training. General Yurii Sodol highlighted the difficulties infantry soldiers face in holding positions against Russian attacks without adequate support. Parliament has passed laws to replenish forces, but recruitment challenges persist.

Air defense has also emerged as a critical issue for Ukraine, with degraded defenses allowing Russia to target critical infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the importance of air defense systems in countering the Russian threat and protecting domestic weapons production.

Despite efforts to counter Russian aggression through drone strikes and training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets, Ukraine’s need for sophisticated Western air defense systems remains urgent. With American assistance still uncertain, Ukraine is racing against time to bolster its defenses and protect against further Russian advances on the front lines.
