Amazon is currently facing legal action in an Indian court for violating labor laws at a major warehouse near Delhi. An inspection earlier this year revealed inadequate safety equipment and failure to comply with labor laws. Workers were reportedly asked to pledge not to take breaks until meeting their daily targets, leading to a formal investigation. The company confirmed a manager requested this pledge as a “motivational exercise”, calling the incident isolated. The government accused Amazon of not providing necessary safety gear and failing to follow labor laws. The case has been adjourned to December 10. Workers at the warehouse have complained about strict targets, lack of rest opportunities, and being monitored heavily at work. Amazon maintains that its facilities provide competitive pay and a safe working environment, but workers claim otherwise. With over 60 such fulfillment centers in India, Amazon’s treatment of workers has come under scrutiny globally.
