Have you checked out Deli Boys on Hulu yet? The new crime comedy series from creator Abdullah Saeed premiered on March 6 and follows two Pakistani-American brothers who inherit their family’s cocaine empire. Asif Ali plays Mir, the uptight younger brother, while Saagar Shaikh portrays Raj, the carefree elder brother. Lucky, played by Poorna Jagannathan, is a family friend who becomes a gangster mentor to the brothers.
I spoke with Ali, Shaikh, and Jagannathan about their roles and the South Asian culture portrayed in the show. Ali discussed how he found Mir annoying but endearing, while Shaikh shared his approach to playing Raj as a laid-back character. Jagannathan described Lucky as a fierce and complex character who must balance family loyalty with criminal activities.
The actors also talked about the characters’ fashion styles and how they reflect their personalities. Lucky’s style, inspired by ’70s Bollywood actresses and ’90s supermodels, conveys her strong and elite demeanor on the show.
