Pohon jeruk, keamanan, harapan: Kenangan rumah Gaza saya sebelum perang datang | Gaza

As the war in Gaza began, I packed makeup and a favourite book, hoping for comfort during the assault. I never expected to be away from home for so long, missing the familiarity and safety it provided. Living through multiple military assaults, this current genocide has been the cruelest and most surreal experience. With over 40,000 Palestinians killed and possibly even more, the toll of death and destruction continues to rise. Displaced from my home in Gaza City, I now find solace in simple pleasures I once took for granted, like the fragrant garden and bustling streets. Ten months later, living in Deir el-Balah, the city has drastically changed – suffocating from the destruction and lack of basic services. Despite the challenges, I try to stay occupied with studies, learning Italian, and writing poetry. Daily life revolves around finding water, charging devices, and securing basic necessities. The struggle for survival and normalcy continues as we cling to hope for a better future.
