The future of Audi’s electric cars is discussed in Part 1 of this report. Despite challenges in the Chinese and German markets in 2019, Audi saw a 1.8% increase in worldwide deliveries, with SUVs being a popular choice. The A4 L, in particular, was a hit in China, the brand’s top market. The upcoming new model for 2020 will be the A3.
Hildegard Wortmann, Audi’s head of Sales and Marketing, stated that after a mixed first half of the year, the company managed to catch up in the second half. She mentioned that although the demands for 2020 will be high, Audi has set the course for further growth.
The A1 Sportback and A1 citycarver are due for mid-cycle facelifts in 2022, with the next generation expected in 2025. The new A3 Sportback and sedan will be launched later this year. The A4 and S4 have been facelifted twice since 2015, with the next generation expected in 2022.
The A6 is due for a facelift in the fourth quarter of 2021, with the next generation expected in 2025. The S6 and S6 Avant will likely be launched in the first half of 2025. The A7 Sportback and S7 are expected to be facelifted in the second half of 2021.
Audi may introduce an A2 e-tron in the future, as well as an electric car in the C segment. The D segment e-tron, expected to be launched in 2023, will be based on the PPE architecture. The larger e-tron GT will be available in dealerships from early 2021.
The potential for a third generation R8 is still being examined, with production possibly starting in 2023. Reports suggest a hypercar named R9 or R10 could be in the works for the mid-decade.
