The alliance between US conservatism and Israeli ethno-nationalism may seem strange to some, considering the history of anti-Semitic messages spread by US conservatives. It is also unsettling to see US liberalism, represented by President Joe Biden, supporting Israel’s actions in Gaza despite the war crimes being committed. The dream of settler colonialism in Palestine, like in many other places, is rooted in the desire to eliminate the natives and replace them with whiteness. This shared dream has led to alliances between racists in the US and elsewhere, all in the name of white supremacist violence. Settler colonialism, whether in Palestine or America, follows the same patterns of violence, ethnic cleansing, and demonization of Indigenous resistance. Zionism is a latecomer to the game of settler colonialism, but has advanced and perfected its tactics of racial violence. The dream of America, with its history of colonial violence, continues to support and arm settler colonial projects worldwide. It is time to move towards a post-Western future, away from the legacy of colonial violence and towards a more equitable world.
