8.1 Awara Natural Like Latex hybrid design Certified organic materials Affordable price Good for back sleepers Don’t like Only one firmness option Latex foam feel isn’t for everyone Not the best motion isolation Awara is one of the many brands under the Resident Home umbrella, which also includes Nectar, Dreamcloud, Cloverlane and other home furniture brands. There are two different Awara mattresses, the Natural — which is the subject of this review — and the Awara Premier Natural. The Natural is the most basic of the two Awara mattresses, but basic does not mean bad in any way. This bed provides a ton of value with responsive, cushiony latex foam above supportive coils — and anyone looking for an eco-friendly mattress backed by lots of certifications should be giving the Awara Natural a look.
Initial Impressions of the Awara Natural Mattress
This is the third iteration of the base model Awara that we have tested in our office. Internally, the beds haven’t changed much throughout the updates but the newest version of Awara certainly looks different than the original one we tested over 5 years ago. The cover on the new version is less white and more earthly looking, which I think is beneficial to show off the organic materials used in the construction of the Awara Natural. When I first tried this new version of Awara I was expecting the same type of firmness profile and feel of the previous versions and that is exactly what I observed.
Since this is an organic mattress, the main comfort layer of the Awara Natural is latex foam, which has a very distinctive feel. Natural and Organic mattresses almost always feature latex foam because it is a naturally derived material as opposed to being chemical based like most other mattress foams. My overall impression of the Awara Natural was quite positive, and it was even more positive after I saw the price point, which we will cover later in this review.
Is the Awara Natural mattress right for you?
For anyone looking for an organic mattress who is also shopping on a budget, I think the Awara Natural is going to be one of your best bets. Most latex hybrids that feature organic materials are generally expensive, but somehow, after factoring in discounts, the Awara Natural is in the same price bracket as some all-foam mattresses with no organic materials. You will have to be okay with the bed’s specific type of latex feel and be okay with a bed that is pretty firm, and if you are, the value of the Awara Natural mattress is difficult to beat.
Awara Natural Hybrid Firmness and Feel
The feel of the Awara Natural is defined by its top comfort layer, which is latex foam. The feel of latex foam is very distinct in large part due to its responsiveness. Latex foam provides a cushioned, buoyant feel that most sleepers will find comfortable. However, if you know you love the feel of memory foam, a latex feel is on the opposite end of the spectrum.
The Awara Natural is on the firm side of the scale, making it ideal for back sleepers looking for a bed with little give and lots of support. Certain stomach sleepers might also like this firmness profile, as well as combination sleepers who do not spend much time sleeping on their side. For side sleepers, a mattress this firm may not provide enough pressure relief for hips and shoulders.
Awara Natural Hybrid Construction
The main support layer of the Awara Natural is an eight-inch-thick layer of pocketed coils with a reinforced perimeter to improve edge support. Above the coil layer is the main comfort layer of the Awara Natural, which is a two-inch-thick layer of latex foam, and then there is a luxurious quilted cover made with a bamboo rayon blend and filled with wool for additional comfort. Most of the materials used in the Awara Natural feature some kind of certification to show that it is organic.
Edge support on the Awara Natural is solid, and in our testing, we found no issues. Motion isolation may not be as good as other mattresses due to the latex foam and coil combination, which makes the mattress responsive and springy. Temperature regulation is neutral, with latex foam and coils providing airflow to prevent overheating.
Awara Natural Hybrid Pricing
The Awara Natural is one of the most affordable latex hybrid beds we have ever tested. The retail price is already affordable when compared to mattresses in its class, like the Avocado Green, but when you factor in discounts, it becomes as affordable as some simple all-foam mattresses.
