Yogyakarta – Menteri Koordinator Bidang Politik, Hukum dan Keamanan (Menkopolhukam) RI yang juga calon wakil presiden nomor urut 3, Mahfud MD memberikan tanggapan terhadap pernyataan Presiden RI, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) yang menyebut bahwa presiden hingga para menteri boleh berkampanye dan memihak dalam Pilpres.

Menurut Mahfud, itu adalah hak prerogatif Jokowi jika ingin berpartisipasi dalam kontestasi pilpres ini.
\”Yes, it’s alright if the president says so, feel free to do it. Whether to participate or not, it’s up to them,\” said Mahfud after attending an event at Pondok Pesantren An-Nur in Bantul, Yogyakarta, Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

Mahfud declined to comment further regarding President Jokowi’s controversial statement as the head of state. Instead, he suggested consulting the legal bureau of the state secretary for this matter.

\”Ask the legal bureau of the state secretary about it (the legal regulations),\” he concluded.
Furthermore, he jokingly mentioned that the statement did not create any turmoil in the current election situation. \”(Does it worsen the election atmosphere?) No, it doesn’t bother me. It’s even calm here,\” said Mahfud while laughing.
Previously reported, President Joko Widodo or Jokowi stated that a president can take sides and even campaign in the presidential election or pilpres. According to him, this can be done as long as it does not abuse state facilities.
This was conveyed by President Jokowi amidst public questions regarding the neutrality of the president in the 2024 Presidential Election.
\”The president can campaign. They can take sides. We are public officials as well as political officials. How can we not be allowed to do it?\” said Jokowi at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, East Jakarta, Wednesday, January 24, 2024.
Although stating the ability to take sides and campaign, until now Jokowi has not explicitly declared his support for any presidential and vice-presidential candidates in the 2024 Presidential Election. However, Jokowi has shown his inclination to support Prabowo-Gibran on several occasions.
