Taruhan Netflix pada enkoding video canggih

Anne Aaron, the senior encoding technology director at Netflix, is always analyzing visual challenges, even during events like the Screen Actors Guild Awards. She has spent 13 years optimizing Netflix’s encoding process, resulting in better streams over slower connections and significant bandwidth savings. As Netflix expands into cloud gaming and livestreaming, Aaron and her team face new challenges, such as streaming WWE RAW live every Monday. To tackle these challenges, they have had to start fresh with a new encoding pipeline.

Previously, Netflix used a one-size-fits-all approach to encoding, but Aaron recognized the need for more tailored settings per title. This led to the adoption of per-title encoding, resulting in substantial bandwidth savings. However, the new approach faced challenges, such as scenes with high visual complexity that required more data to encode properly. To address this, Netflix began segmenting videos by shots and applying different encoding settings to each segment.

Aaron’s relentless pursuit of visual perfection extends beyond the office, with her kids even joining in on spotting visual imperfections in the real world. Despite her meticulous approach, Aaron acknowledges the importance of subjective testing to fine-tune encoding settings. By combining human feedback with machine learning, Netflix continues to deliver high-quality streams to its viewers.
