This week, we had the opportunity to chat with the director and producer of what could potentially be the best film of 2024: The Wild Robot, a masterpiece animated film by DreamWorks. The movie features the voices of Lupita Nyong’o, Pedro Pascal, Stephanie Hsu, Mark Hamill, Matt Berry, and Catherine O’Hara. While the film recently hit theaters, it is already available on demand and has its sights set on potential awards. Director Chris Sanders and producer Jeff Hermann sat down with io9 to discuss the creation of this incredible film.
Based on the book series by Peter Brown, The Wild Robot follows the story of Roz (voiced by Nyong’o), a super robot who finds herself on a deserted island. She ends up caring for a young goose named Brightbill and learns the true meaning of motherhood. However, a simple description doesn’t do justice to the film – it’s something you have to experience for yourself.
During our conversation, Sanders and Hermann shared some insights, including spoilers. They discussed the moment when the movie truly clicked for them, the secret behind a pivotal scene, the potential for a sequel, and Sanders’ thoughts on the live-action adaptations of his previous films, Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon.
The Wild Robot is truly a remarkable film that has captured the hearts of many.
